Katie + Ryan // Onekama, Michigan

When Justin was in his accident just over a month ago we had to make a plan as to what we were going to do for our business for the short term and potentially long term. Of course the first thing we had to do was cancel the engagement shoot he was booked to do later that night, and then we were looking at upcoming weddings and how we were going to go about tackling everything after the fact.

We knew that he would not be shooting our double header weekend over memorial day, it would be to soon after surgery and so we reached out to both of our brides to explain the situation and let them know of the changes. As we have said a million times before, our clients are the best, everyone has been encouraging us and lifting us up with kind words and support which means more than anything to us. Then as we are going back through the list of dates, and whose wedding is when, and what that looks like, Justin had the realization, he was going to miss “The Tugboat Wedding”. Yes Katie, your wedding was identified as “The Tugboat Wedding”, and my husband was heartbroken he was going to miss it, and looking back on it now, he had every reason to be heartbroken and then some, because it was truly the best day ever.

Katie and Ryan knew that they wanted to have a “destination wedding” without having to go to far which brought them to the beautiful Portage Point Inn in Onekama, Michigan. Portage Point is located on the beautiful Portage Lake just across from Lake Michigan, the hotel is full of character everywhere you look, and has the cutest rentable cabins you have ever seen. It was the perfect location for a Michigan Destination Wedding.

I cannot say enough about how amazing Katie and Ryan are, they are kind, considerate, welcoming, fun to be around, and truly genuine. I have had the opportunity to get to know them and their friends over the past year at a few different weddings and there is not a group of people that are more fun and welcoming to be around then this group. When we met with them leading up to their wedding they came to our home, in all of its chaos with two kids, and it felt like we were catching up with life long friends. They have a way of drawing people in with their love for each other and genuine attitude and friendliness toward everyone around them.

It was an honor getting to spend the whole day with The Converses on their wedding day, they reminded me how much I love spending those fun days of work in the sun with Justin and how to enjoy every second when you are with your better half. You guys are the best, thank you for being willing to climb up sand dunes in a suit and wedding dress, and for making it the best day ever.
