Samantha & Tristan // Glennie, Michigan

I love a good backyard wedding.  There is nothing better than watching a bride get ready in her childhood home, with her family, and get married in the place where she grew up.  It always has a certain spark to it, a different energy and sentiment.  Tristan and Samantha’s wedding was no different.

I met this sweet couple last year, they got our contact information for their wedding through mutual friends that had used us, or been to or in weddings we have done in the past.  They are local to our hometown area and we were so excited to do this big day for them.  We immediately hit it off when we met.  Every time we end up together the four of us can talk for hours, they are truly the best.

I had a funny revelation this morning when getting ready to write this blog post.  Like I mentioned before, I love backyard weddings.  I love getting to hear from the home-owner whether the parents or couple about the house/ property, how long they have owned it and the story behind it.  Sam’s parents have owned their business and property for 30 years, her dad was telling me about the house, how they have made improvements and changes over the decades and that he had just put the beautiful patio fire pit area that they had just put in this summer and now that was the backdrop to their daughters wedding day.

Justin and I sat in the backyard toward the end of the night and chatted about how cool it must be to look at the progress of this home over the expanse of 30 years, how hard work, patience and slow progress pay off and how rewarding that must be for their family on a day as monumental is this big wedding day. It is easy to want to have everything right now, to have the perfect home, perfect marriage, perfect business, but in reality it all takes time and hard work. I am always reminded of that when we get to be on family properties like this one.

Sam and Tristans wedding was special for countless reasons, their families have quite the special relationship, their friends are like family, and their hospitality is unmatched.  We were honored to capture their day and be immersed into their family and story.  Its one of hard work, dedication, and love.
