Carly + Mat // Milwaukee, Wisconsin

One thing that we try to stress on wedding days is that we are there to capture moments and memories not only for the bride and groom but for their families too. We always tell the parents of the bride and groom to come and find us for any and all photos they would like taken throughout the day. While the wedding is always about the bride and groom first and foremost, it is also a big day to celebrate family and being together. Carly and mat were married this weekend in one of our favorite cities, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. There were so many memorable moments throughout the day and nearly all of those moments were “family moments”.

Carly and Mat decided to wait to see each other until at the ceremony and Carly and her bridesmaids got ready at her parents home near the church where they got married, which was also the church she grew up going to. They had to take a couple different trips to get everyone to the ceremony and it just worked out that the last people to leave their home was the 5 of them, Carly, her parents, and siblings. There is something so special about those last few moments together as a family before you add another person to the crew and it was so special to be able to capture the simple moment of them leaving together.

The other less “private” family moment that stuck out to us from their day was the dance that Mat shared with his mom at the reception. They danced to Bridge Over Troubled Water by Simon and Garfunkel, and amongst the 200+ people watching intently you could have heard a pin drop. Mat and his family lost his father unexpectedly a year ago and that dance was the most beautiful tribute to his family and relationship to both of his parents. I tear up just writing about it. Mat and Jane, thank you, for sharing that amazing moment with all of us, it will never be forgotten.

For those of you who are not big baseball fans, the Milwaukee Brewers played in game seven of the National League Championship Saturday night, and it was Carly who insisted that it was playing on the big screen behind the bar during the reception. Being that we are not Wisconsin Natives, we were brewers fans for the day and although they didn’t win, having everyone watching the game around the bar together created a memorable atmosphere that no one will forget.

Their entire wedding was centered around their relationship and the relationships that support them. We cannot say enough about this group of people, this is the second wedding that we have had the honor of capturing with this crew and we felt like they welcomed us in like we were friends of a decade. We are so thankful to have been able to make the trek to Milwaukee again, and don’t plan on it being the last trip. Thank you friends, we are so excited for your future together.
